Immunotherapy has had a dramatic effect on cancer treatment, but most cancer patients do not respond to the currently available immunotherapies. The activity of immune cells is regulated by activating inhibitory proteins, which suppress immune cell activity. Immunotherapy of tumors is largely based on medication that prevents inhibition of the immune system. Prof. Mandelboim’s team is working to identify new inhibitory proteins and hopes to develop new medications for these inhibitory proteins.
