An antigen is any substance that causes the immune system to produce antibodies to fight off that substance. (Think pollen and sneezing.) Antigens may also be found on the surface of cancer cells. The Reiter team is developing a novel therapeutic strategy to overcome cancer relapse by using the patient’s own engineered T cells to work with these antigens.
