Message from Alan Herman, ICRF Executive Director – May 2026

Dear Friends,

I recently had the privilege of attending the American Cancer Society’s Night of Hope event honoring Dr. Arnie Baskies, ICRF’s International Chair. Anyone who knows Arnie understands the depth of his passion for his family, the American Cancer Society, Israel, sports, and, fortunately for us, the Israel Cancer Research Fund. No matter what is happening in his own life, he is always available to offer guidance to someone navigating a cancer journey or to help strategize how ICRF can continue advancing the fight against cancer.

It was especially meaningful to hear Arnie reflect on the early support he received from the American Cancer Society as a young researcher. That experience clearly shaped his commitment to ensuring that today’s early-career scientists have access to the funding they need, particularly in Israel. His dedication to paying that opportunity forward is both inspiring and deeply aligned with ICRF’s mission.

May is National Cancer Research Month. While ICRF-funded research is conducted in Israel, its impact is felt around the world. It was inspiring to see so many current and recently funded ICRF researchers presenting, being recognized, and actively participating at the recent American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) meeting in San Diego. Israel’s strong presence at a global forum like AACR is incredibly important, and ICRF’s role in supporting many of these researchers underscores the significance of our work.

The progress ICRF enables in Israel is only possible because of your continued support. I would like to extend a special thank you to our friends and supporters in Chicago who made the Visions Revolving Tables event on April 30 such a success, both in its fundraising impact and in introducing many new individuals to our mission. I am especially grateful to Visions Chairs Josh Epstein and Rachel Bikshorn, as well as Revolving Tables Chairs Noa Schaik and Ashley Vogel Tepper.
