NEW YORK, NY — Alan Herman, a resident of New York City, has recently been named New York Executive Director of the Israel Cancer Research Fund.

Prior to this position, Herman served as Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer of Congregation Beth Elohim (CBE) ( 2019-2021), a leading national synagogue, where he oversaw all aspects of financial oversight and budgeting, fundraising, facility and security management, member services and engagement, and logistical support of the educational programs. In this role, he spearheaded the merger and integration of two historic synagogues, while navigating the complexities of COVID 19-related management.

Before CBE, Herman was Executive Director of Sutton Place Synagogue where he was responsible for all business functions including fundraising and development, the launch of a capital campaign and establishing an annual fundraising gala.

A graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Alan held executive positions at the Bentex Group (2014-2017) and was the founder and president of A&L Apparel (1988-2014), a wholesale distribution business serving national retail and Fortune 500 corporations.

“As a cancer survivor, joining ICRF is a gift that words cannot describe. Receiving a cancer diagnosis 11 years ago turned my world upside down. Now to be part of a mission, and a team, that is helping to bring about change, so one day cancer will not upend so many lives, is very humbling.”
