Alan Herman Named National Director of Advancement of the Israel Cancer Research Fund

Alan HermanAlan Herman has been named National Director of Advancement  of the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF),  the largest nonprofit dedicated to funding cancer research in Israel.  Prior to this appointment Herman served as ICRF New York Executive Director since July 2021. In this new role, Herman will help set ICRF’s national strategies and guide its fundraising efforts, including strengthening existing partnerships and developing new collaborations, and expanding markets for the organization nationwide.

“Joining ICRF a year and a half ago has been a gift that words cannot describe,” said Herman. “As a cancer survivor, I am so humbled to be part of a mission and a team that is helping to bring about change so that one day cancer will not upend so many lives”.  With this enhanced challenge, I hope to increase awareness of ICRF’s mission and to raise significant funds to support Israel’s brilliant cancer researchers in their relentless work to find new treatments and cures for this devastating disease.”

Prior to joining ICRF, Herman served as Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer of Congregation Beth Elohim (CBE) ( 2019-2021), a leading national synagogue, where he oversaw all aspects of  financial oversight and budgeting, fundraising, facility and security management, member services and engagement, and logistical support of the educational programs . In this role, he spearheaded the merger and integration of two historic synagogues, while navigating the complexities of COVID 19-related management.

Before CBE, Herman was Executive Director of Sutton Place Synagogue where he was responsible for all business functions including fundraising and development, the launch of a capital campaign and establishing an annual fundraising gala.

A graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Alan held executive positions at the Bentex Group (2014-2017) and was the founder and president of A&L Apparel (1988-2014), a wholesale distribution business serving national retail and Fortune 500 corporations.
