2026 Connecticut Women of Action Brunch

Dietary laws observed

Join us to celebrate a leader in our community who has transformed an immense challenge into a courageous campaign to help others. Seven years ago, Julie was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She first attended an ICRF gala while still in treatment, and that experience marked the beginning of her ongoing involvement and commitment to supporting lifesaving research. She exemplifies the true meaning of a Woman of Action.

While this event honors extraordinary women, we welcome and encourage men to attend and be part of the celebration.

Dr. Julie TelRav is a sociologist, educator, and longtime advocate for cancer research and compassionate treatment. She currently serves as a full-time faculty member at CT State Norwalk, where she has taught for the past two and a half years, following nearly two decades of teaching at colleges and universities across the country. Her academic work reflects a deep commitment to helping students think critically about the social forces that shape our lives.

Julie’s connection to the mission of the Israel Cancer Research Fund is both personal and enduring. Seven years ago, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She first attended an ICRF gala while still in treatment—bald, determined, and, as she likes to say, in her “Voldemort stage of life.” That experience marked the beginning of her ongoing involvement with the organization and her commitment to supporting lifesaving research.

In addition to her academic work, Julie serves as a board member of Schoke Jewish Family Service, contributing to efforts that strengthen and support vulnerable members of the community. And, when she is not teaching or volunteering, you can usually find her in her [she]d, covered in glue and paint, working out her stress on canvas.

Julie lives in Connecticut with her husband, Rabbi Jay TelRav, their two children, Amitai and Nili, and their adorable, neurotic mutt, David.
