ICRF 2026 Scientific Review Panel Convenes to Advance Cancer Research

On March 13, 2026, ICRF hosted its annual Scientific Review Panel (SRP) meeting to evaluate and discuss new grant applications submitted by Israeli scientists. Modeled after the rigorous peer-review process of the National Institutes of Health and overseen by ICRF’s International Scientific Council (ISC), the SRP plays a critical role in ensuring that ICRF continues to fund the most promising and impactful cancer research in Israel that has the potential to impact patients worldwide.

Under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Maizels, Vice President of the ICRF International Board of Trustees and Chief Scientific Officer, the 2026 SRP brought together 35 esteemed scientists and oncologists representing 27 leading institutions across the United States and Canada, all of whom generously gave their time and expertise to advance ICRF’s mission. We are deeply grateful to our reviewers whose insights ensure we are funding the most impactful science possible.

This year’s proposals showcased a wide range of exciting and forward-looking ideas across many different types and aspects of cancer. For this funding cycle, ICRF received a record amount of cancer research grant applications, surpassing the number submitted in recent years and reflecting the growing demand for support of innovative Israeli cancer research.

A next step in the process involves the International Scientific Council (ISC), which reviews the grant proposals and scores from the SRP. The ISC then makes funding recommendations to ICRF’s International Board of Trustees. From there, the Board allocates available resources with the goal of supporting the most outstanding science — and funding as many exceptional projects as possible so that no deserving research goes unfunded.
