Message from Alan Herman, ICRF Executive Director – August 2026

Over the past several weeks, we have begun notifying Israeli researchers that their ICRF grant applications have been approved for funding. As we finalize the 2026-2027 funding cycle, together with our Israel and Toronto Chapters, we expect to add 38 new research projects to our portfolio, representing more than $7.2 million in lifetime funding. Please watch for our official announcement, which will be shared very soon once the process is complete.

One of the greatest privileges of my role is speaking with our newly funded researchers. Whether they are receiving a Career Development Award as an emerging investigator, a Project Grant as an established scientist, or a Professorship supporting one of Israel’s leading cancer researchers, the message is always the same. They are deeply grateful for ICRF’s support and confidence in their work. We all recognize the extraordinary challenges facing researchers around the world, particularly in Israel. Knowing that ICRF remains a steadfast source of support for Israel’s scientific community is more than meaningful. It is a lifeline that enables these exceptional scientists to continue leading groundbreaking discoveries in the fight against cancer.

Earlier this month, Dr. Jason Sicklick, a leader of ICRF’s Scientific Review Panel, visited several ICRF-funded laboratories at the Rambam Health Care Campus, Fishman Oncology Center, and the Rappaport Technion Integrated Cancer Center. During his visit, he met with an extraordinary group of researchers, including Nobel Laureate and ICRF Professorship recipient Professor Aaron Ciechanover, as well as Dr. Irit Ben-Aharon, one of our newest Professorship Grant recipients. Seeing firsthand the innovative research taking place and hearing directly from the scientists whose work is made possible through ICRF, reinforced the profound impact that your generosity has on advancing cancer research and improving lives around the world.

In the coming days, we will also be launching ICRF’s newly redesigned website. I hope you will take the opportunity to explore it, learn more about the groundbreaking research you make possible, and discover new ways to engage with our mission. Every breakthrough begins with the support of donors like you, and every discovery is a testament to your commitment to a future free from the suffering caused by cancer.
