There are many opportunities to honor or memorialize your family or loved ones with a donation to Israel Cancer Research Fund, from naming an ICRF park bench to funding a scientist in Israel.

Planned Giving Opportunities

Planned giving programs enable donors to contribute money or assets to the Israel Cancer Research Fund at a future date. These programs can utilize a variety of financial vehicles that can be adapted to the individual donors needs. Arranging a planned gift to ICRF is a powerful way to make a lasting difference in the fight against cancer. Such generous contributions accelerate the research leading to cures for cancer. Below are programs which can be used to allocate gifts to ICRF.

WAYS TO GIVE

  • Gifts of Cash – A cash or check gift one time or recurring is an easy way for you to make a gift. You will receive a charitable tax deduction that will provide you with savings on this year’s tax return.
  • Gifts of Stocks and Bonds – By making a gift of your appreciated securities, you can avoid paying capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if you sold these assets.
  • Gift of Retirement Benefits – A gift from your IRA, 401k, 403b, Keogh, pension or other tax deferred plan, is an excellent way to support future cancer research conducted in Israel.
  • Gift of Bequest – You designate ICRF as the beneficiary of your asset by will, trust or beneficiary designation form.
  • Gift of Real Estate – By giving a of appreciated real property, you can avoid paying capital gains tax by making a gift to us.
  • Gift of Life Insurance – By naming ICRF as the revocable/irrevocable owner and beneficiary of the policy, allows you to claim an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the policy.
  • IRA Charitable Rollover – Congress recently enacted a permanent extension of the IRA Charitable Rollover. As a result, you can make an IRA rollover gift in 2015, 2016 and beyond.
  • Beneficiary Designation Gifts – You can designate us as a beneficiary of a retirement, investment or bank account or your life insurance policy.
  • Charitable Remainder Unitrust – You transfer your cash or appreciated property to fund a charitable remainder unitrust. The trust sells your property tax free and provides you with income for life or a term of years.
  • Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust – You transfer your cash or appreciated property to fund a charitable remainder annuity trust. The trust sells your property tax free and provides you with fixed income for life or a term of years.
  • Charitable Lead Trust – You fund a trust that makes gifts to us for a number of years. Your family receives the trust remainder at substantial tax savings.
  • Sale and Unitrust – You give a portion of your property to us to fund a charitable remainder trust, when the property sells you receive cash and income for life.

Taking strides to help humanity is a timeless gesture and a commitment that drives our mission forward. If you have not yet created your will, please consider leaving a bequest to ICRF. If you already have a will in place, please consider including ICRF. You may include ICRF in the following ways:

  • IRA, 401(K), or other qualified retirement plans
  • Name ICRF as a beneficiary of all or part of your estate plan 
  • IRA rollover 
  • Gifts of real estate (bequeath commercial or residential property, which you can reserve for lifetime use)
  • Life insurance policies (name ICRF as a beneficiary of a percentage of—or an entire—life insurance policy. If you donate a life insurance policy to ICRF now, you would also receive an immediate income tax deduction for the value of the premiums)

Name a Research Grant

Name a research grant in honor or memory of a loved one by funding an ICRF scientist in Israel.

ICRF welcomes all contributions to support its efforts in funding Israel’s most brilliant cancer research scientists. ICRF–sponsored cancer research grants are selected by ICRF’s Scientific Review Panel (SRP), comprised of leading American and Canadian physicians and scientists working in fields related to cancer research. This prominent international group meets annually to review applications submitted to ICRF. After a lengthy peer-review process, their recommendations are approved by the ICRF Board of Trustees. The review process is modeled after that of the NIH; strict guidelines are followed to ensure fairness and impartiality.

There are eight ICRF cancer research grants:

1.  Collaborative Funding Awards – $495,000 over a period of three years
(includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to the most promising cancer research projects being conducted on a collaborative basis between an American or Canadian research institution and investigators in Israel.

2.  Research Professorship Grants – $550,000 over a period of five years
(includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to full-time senior faculty or scientists in equivalent positions who have made outstanding contributions to cancer research.

3.  Clinical Research Career Development Awards – $148,500 over a period of three years  (includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to promising young medical or pediatric oncologists to afford them the time to conduct clinical research projects and to obtain additional training to become leaders in clinical research programs.

4.  Research Career Development Awards – $148,500 over a period of three years  (includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to promising researchers in the field of cancer who have advanced beyond the postdoctoral level and are well on their way to becoming outstanding independent investigators.

5.  Acceleration Grants – $154,000 over a period of two years
(includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Intended to speed up our efforts to fully understand the biology behind cancer, grant applications in this category are required to propose highly-innovative approaches that have the promise of pioneering new ways of thinking about cancer biology and therapeutics.

6.  Project Grants – $198,000 over a period of three years
(includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to support the research of an established investigator working on a specific project under the direction of a designated Principal Investigator.

7.  Postdoctoral Fellowships – $99,000 over a period of three years
(includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to new M.D.’s and Ph.D.’s who will apprentice in the laboratories of senior investigators.

8.  Special Funding Initiatives – minimum of $550,000 over three years
(includes 10% Indirect Cost Recovery)
Awarded to the most promising cancer research projects being conducted in a specific cancer or type of cancer research, as determined by the donor(s) and approved by the ICRF International Scientific Council. A special request for proposals will be issued and a specialized scientific review panel (or SSRP) will be convened to review these particular grant applications.
